Sypnosis :

He breaks into other people's homes, sleeps there and enjoys their food and drink but also helps the owners with things that need fixing...

In 3-iron Jae Hee portrays a jobless bum that gets around by living in houses that have been left empty by their owners. He follows the strong principle of only pleasing his essential needs, i.e., food and lodging and even helps out as a house-man when things need to be repaired. During one of his break-ins he runs into the desperate wife whom he helps to escape from the clutches of her strictly career-minded husband. Soon the husband discovers that his wife is missing and tries to get back what he believes rightly belongs to him.

Kim Ki-duk, whose movies including The Isle, Birdcage Inn and Bad Guy mostly revolve around the topics of lust and violence, was honored with the Silver Lion at the 61st Venice Film Festival for his superb directing efforts. He excels in offering scenes almost free of any dialogue that live solely from the expressions of the involved artists. In 3-iron's final scenarios for example the leading actress only utters the words "Let's eat" and "I love you". As lead actress Lee Seung-yeon was overshadowed by the scandal press from an earlier movie, the forecast for 3-iron's box-office results was not at all optimistic. However, the film's good reviews as well as the award it harvested in Venice have more than restored Lee's status as actress.

this movie is certainly a breath of fresh air from the serious gang movies out there. even with a very few spoken dialogue, bin jip (which literally means empty house) made the emotions felt by the characters very palpable and very real. a unique and interesting movie...
