Ballads are likely to continue to dominate the music world this year as a number of ballad singers are making a comeback with new albums.
Last year, medium tempo ballad songs saw their popularity continue from the last couple of years, with many ballad singers releasing new albums and even some dance singers using ballads as the title songs for their new albums in the year's second half.
Ballad king Lee Seung-chul was popular among both younger and older generations, with his new songs “Shout it Out” and “White Bird” topping the music charts consecutively. Sung Si-kyung and Eru also saw their song “On the Street” and “Black Sunglasses” become popular among young people, topping on- and offline music charts.
That popularity will continue into this year, with many ballad albums already having been released only a month since the beginning of the new year. Park Hyo-shin released his 5th album, Lee Ki-chan his 9th album, and Tei his 4th album. Lee Jae-hoon, a former member of the trio Cool, made his solo debut with the light ballad song “Fantasy.”
