Sunday Seoul

Synopsis
Adolescence is a tough time for anyone –romantically, socially and physically, what with the onset of puberty. But the transition is turning out to be particularly difficult for Do-yeon – he’s constantly bullied and belittled, his crush on pretty Ji-yeon doesn’t seem mutual, and then there’s the small matter of the rumours of a werewolf on the prowl… Next, a serial killer’s car breaks down, and he can’t believe his luck. Seeking a telephone, he finds a shy, silent young woman all alone in the house! He promptly kills her, and her little brother for good measure, but there’s a catch. The two don’t seem ready to stay dead – if they were even alive to begin with! And finally, a confrontation at a gas station leads Typhoon, a fighter with a few things to learn and revenge on his mind, to a secret martial-arts school. They’ll make a master of him, and when they do, he’ll have a surprise for them!

A three-in-one wacky pack of horrific hilarity and fantastic fun, Sunday Seoul is modeled on those vintage horror/fantasy omnibuses, from Mario Bava’s Black Sabbath through to Twilight Zone: The Movie - with a sharp twist of the deadpan, deprecating humour Koreans can’t resist injecting into such things (example: when Typhoon leaps 50 feet into the air and yanks on his Taoist fighting robe in mid-flight, his opponents aren’t impressed – they just think he’s too shy to do it right in front of them). Keep in mind that the film’s title is the name of a notorious tabloid paper (the Korean equivalent of the Weekly World News and its lurid tales of bat-boys, half-ton housecats and secretly-alien celebrities), which went out of print a decade ago. Thrills, chills and chuckles galore!
