Kim Go-Eun (김고은), or better known as her stage name (Byul) (Korean for "star") is a K-Pop singer known mostly for her ballads. Born on October 22, 1983 in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, she studied in Dong Guk Women's University. She was discovered by Park Jin Young, the head of JYP Entertainment (the same scout who found Rain), when she had the opportunity to sing for him at one of his fan-meetings.

Her first album was released in 2002, with the interestingly-titled single "December 32nd" marking her debut in the entertainment industry. A song of waiting for a lost love (who promised he would be back before the end of the year), it became very popular (as it was released in December of that year). The subsequent singles from that album, though, did not achieve much popularity.

Byul took a year break and trained vocally, eventually coming out with her second album in March 2005. Her first and only single from this album was entitled "안부", a duet with ballad singer Na Yoon Kwon. Although a minor hit, it did not result in great album success. However, this album also featured the song "I Think I", which was used as the theme song for the popular Korean TV Drama Full House (2004 TV series). As this drama was released in many different countries, her first two albums were subsequently released in China in order to capitalize on the drama's success.

The following year, she released her third album while also revealing a dramatic makeover, resulting in many rumours of extensive plastic surgery. However, the title song "눈물샘" (literally Lachrymal Glands) was very popular, thus extending Byul's career. A followup single ("Cupid") was released, but it was promoted for a short amount of time, and Byul soon went on a break. She re-emerged in November to release a digital single, with the title 물풍선 (12월 32일 그 이후), or Water Balloons (After December 32nd), alluding to her debut song, thus making it a sequel song of sorts.

In April of 2007, she then released her 4th album entitled "Her Story". This album validates Byul's continued success as one of KPOP's top female vocalists - a remarkable feat in an industry known to produce more one-hit-wonders than credible, sustainable musical talent. Byul will continue to shine like a star.
